I love Salt Lick BBQ. This location in the Austin area is great. This location is about the same distance from Austin as the Round Rock location. I love the fatty brisket with the BBQ sauce. I love their sweet potato fries and bread. The restaurant always is busy because it is so popular. I wish I could eat here more. The staff is always friendly. The prices are worth it for the quality of BBQ.
I’ll start by saying I was really excited to try Texan BBQ for the first time, and I left only half satisfied after visiting. To begin, the area and winery are beautiful. The atmosphere is awesome and this place is huge, easy for a large group to visit. The red wine was well balanced and not very acidic. I did the all you can eat BBQ, and from the plate I’d say only the ribs blew me away. They were some of the best I had, juicy and with the smoke rings. The sausage was also very good, along with the bread and beans. However the brisket fell short and was often chewy or tough, which was disappointing because I was looking forward to a good brisket. The service and everything else was excellent, I just wish the brisket was way better which is why I had to drop the review down. I could’ve just gotten unlucky but I’m basing my review on my own experience.
I really wanted some deep Texas BBQ and my boy took us to this is place. The atmosphere was amazing. Such nice scenery and so many things to do and take in. We got there and the smell of BBQ took over. Service was awesome from the check in to our waiter. The disappointment however was with the food. The brisket didn’t have great flavor but was cooked to the perfect doneness. The pork ribs were decent and definitely didn’t need sauce. The turkey and pork sausage was great though. The true disappointment came with the Bison Ribs. For the amount of money, it was a disappointment. Mine was over cooked and tough. Flavor was delicious but I didn’t care for the texture. Also, the sides were not what I am used to. The beans didn’t taste like normal baked beans (which I hear is Texas style). The potato salad was mid. Definitely didn’t care for it. However it was a decent food experience but great atmospheric experience.
